  • 2011 Christmas Opening Hours - This last year has been very, very busy for us - so much so that in order to meet our clients installation deadlines we cancelled all staff holiday over the summer holidays. Taking this into consideration, we have decided to shut the office  on Friday 16th December , re-opening on the 4th January 2012.  During this period we will be operating our support services as normal - simply email your issues to support@candengo.com and our on-call engineer will respond promptly. • Additional, high availability failover system bought online - Candengo have have always taken high availability and redundancy very seriously - in the past we have had to run 24/7/365 system with clients such as B&Q, Coca Cola and McDonalds so downtime was never an option. Although our main colocation equipment is fully redundant, and mirrored we have this week also bought online our Cloud based colo featuring new synchronized web servers and replicated sql servers - all with a seamless failover in the event our main colocation facility fails. For more information on installing resilient, business class HotSpot services at your venue please contact Candengo... Read full post here

  • Are you paying too much for your WiFi Provision? - Time's are tight, there's no doubt about that.  Smart businesses are taking the time to review contracts, to see where savings can be made and WiFi Provision is certainly an area where you could be paying too much. Does your WiFi Provider include broadband provision in their package? Many WiFi solution providers sell you a complete package, including broadband lines.  The problem is though, very few, if any are actually telecoms companies so all they are doing is finding a provider with a reseller agreement, adding a few pounds on and then selling you... • Bad WiFi installation can cause you all sorts of problems - Oh dear!  Oh Dear! As some of you who read our blogs may know, we've been installing WiFi at 9 holiday parks over the last 3 weeks.  On our epic wifi tour, we checked into a hotel in Cardiff (A BIG hotel chain) and purchased access for their wifi network. Note:  We have screen shots to include in this post, but can't upload them yet due to the poor wifi installation at the hotel - we'll upload them in the next day or so. Our first criticism was the cost, its... Read full post here
  • Badwell Ash Holiday Lodges switch to Candengo OpenWiFi - Badwell Ash Lodges , http://www.badwellashlodges.co.uk/ have switched to Candengo OpenWiFi for their WiF provision, monitoring, content filtering and legal compliance. Their existing equipment was re-used - we didn't even need to take down the equipment as we managed to decrypt the old Park and Marine / Leisure Technology Solutions passwords.  Switch over took around 2 hours to reconfigure the network. If you've been let down by Leisure Technology Solutions why not give Candengo a call to discuss porting your system over. Read full post here
  • Beat the VAT man - We're dropping our prices by 2.5% - I am sure we all agree that the VAT rise, while necessary, is an unwelcome burden on our finances.  Our Colocation costs have risen, broadband costs have gone up, hardware is more expensive - but we won't be raising our prices. Whilst the VAT remains at 20%, we will be dropping our prices by 2.5% to absorb the VAT increase.  OK, it won't heal the UK economy but it may just reaffirm the fact that Candengo's range of Wireless HotSpot solutions are the best value for money. We would like to wish you all... Read full post here
  • Bed and Breakfast WiFi HotSpots and the Digitial Economy Bill - WiFi providers such as cafes, caravan parks, hotels and Bed and Breakfasts may have to register as internet service providers to conform with proposals in the Digital Economy Bill, adding thousands to their operating costs and obliging them to police their networks for illegal file sharing. Of Course, you could do that, or, you could simply sign up for a Candengo WiFi HotSpot, and let us worry about that.  Our small, discrete WiFi Hotspots place a barrier between you and harm - we track your users access, websites, name and email address.  We filter our undesirable P2P networking.  In truth,... • BT and Talk Talk lose file-sharing appeal - "BT and Talk Talk have lost an appeal over controversial measures to tackle copyright infringement online. The internet service providers (ISPs) had argued the UK's Digital Economy Act was incompatible with EU law. The Act will mean ISPs will have to send warning letters to alleged illegal file downloaders, as well as potentially cutting users off." from the BBC news website - see link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17270817 So, What does this mean for you? • Candengo OpenWiFi Content Filtering - Static IP not required. - We like having people ring us up to enquire about our WiFi service, but we don't like our competitors giving out wrong information about our service.  We always speak very highly about our competitors and expect the same in return. For the record, our WiFi HotSpots support full content filtering AND blocking of websites which fall outside of any content filtering category - for instance, a competitors website.  You don't need a Static IP address for the content filtering to work, unlike some other providers.  What you get when you purchase an OpenWiFi HotSpot is the most... • Candengo OpenWiFi special promotions come to an end. - Over the last year, we've heard two regular comments from our customers.  One of those comments is regarding the ease of use of the service, the range of features and the exceptional, fanatical support we offer. The second is with regards to price.  Whats the Catch?  How can you be so cheap?  We've even lost sales due to our pricing as customers can't always believe our service works as the prices we have been quoting are way under those of our competitors. The reason our pricing is such good value for money is that... Read full post here

  • Does the Digital Economy Bill effect your holiday home WiFi? - Are you offering free or paid WiFi in your holiday home or hotel?  Do you know what your customers are downloading, are you keeping adequate log files, and user records?  If not, you could be at risk from the Goverment's new Digital Economy Bill that puts the broadband customer in the line of fire for any illegal activity that occurs from your IP address. • Free installation of your OpenWiFi HotSpots - Our OpenWiFi HotSpots are very simply to install - simply take it out of the box and plug it in - easy peasy.  What's not so easy is determining how many you need to provide a good coverage over your venue. Over the last week, we've installed OpenWiFi at hotels in Heathrow and Manchester - covering in excess of 120 rooms.  The hardest part is knowing where to put the units and how to get power to them. Which is why we have decided to offer free installation to venues that will require 3... Read full post here
  • Free WiFi HotSpot installation - Too Good to be true? - When looking for a WiFi HotSpot partner for your site, you may be tempted by those companies that offer everything for free - after all, why pay when it can be had for nothing? The problem is though, it's not a sustainable business model, and rumors are abound today after we saw a leaked email that one of the players in this field is having a spot of bother.  It's a flawed model - it's like BP or SHELL giving away free cars so they can live on the petrol and diesel revenue.   More than one company...
