Alphabetical

  • A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor - Streaming episodes available \n \nAn old-time radio show with skits, faux ads and sweet, deep, funny essays from Garrison Keillor
  • BBC - Radio 4 the Afternoon Play - 45 minute afternoon audio plays. The most recent ones are available as streaming downloads.
  • BBC Radio 4 - Thinking Allowed - BBC radio show that looks very interesting. I picked it up from Boingboing, and they described it as being similar to an audio Boingboing--it has discussions of a wide variety of topics. Past topics included the myth of the English Highwayman, smoking, queuing, the Russian prison system, tribute bands, materialism, fashion buyers, and on and on. Shows cover two or three topics in a half hour, and are Real Audio streamed (I use Jet Audio for RA format stuff to avoid the annoying software.) Looks very interesting.
  • CBC Radio 3 | Music and Modern Media - Streaming music, and also a link to a podcast. I can't link straight to the podcast because of the frames.
  • Discover Music - Pandora - Way cool streaming music site. First cool thing: free if you listen to ads, or subscribe for no-ad music. Second cool thing: tell it what artist or song you like and it builds a playlist of similar stuff. When it plays something you don't like, tell it, and you'll never hear that song again. You can give it multiple songs and artists to build stations, and you can build multiple stations. Great way to hear both new and familiar music.
  • Doing some housekeeping on the public folders - I'm doing a bit of fiddling in the various folders I've got public. I just discovered that the rss feeds for the subfolders on the public folders don't work. Dunno why, but I'll be rearranging things to get rid of the subfolders. I might just move all the folders to top level, though that seems a little untidy to me. Or I might put all the links currently in subfolders into the main folders with tags or something on the item names. We'll see. The goal, though, is to get the rss feeds to include all the links somehow. \n
\nSorry for the moving and screwups.

  • Noise Pop Mix Tape: Home - "Noise Pop asks today's most innovative musicians to share the music that is on their stereos, mp3 players, and walkmans. Hear for yourself what these cutting-edge artists are listening to and find out how it affects the music they are making." A website from KQED \nI finally checked this out--it's all streaming Real formats. The artist in question lists a bunch of influences that you can listen to individually or as a sort of "mix tape radio station." They have current ones and archives, and also have a few tracks from the artists themselves as well.
  • Online Alternative Radio Station - Dinosaurs and Robots! - Powered by Live365.com - This Live365 station plays secondhand mix tapes.
  • Radio Ecoshock - This is a streaming site that is always about ecological issues. I think it is always talk radio. I haven't checked it out terribly carefully, but I didn't have to use realplayer to play it--it popped up in my Quintessential player with no trouble.
